Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Release Date: May 22, 2008
Runtime: 2 hr. 4 min.
Director: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Ray Winstone, John Hurt.

Waiting for over a decade, one can only have high expectations when going to see the 4th installment of a classic franchise. With that said, "Crystal Skull" was refreshing, yet disappointing, at the same time. Given the lapsed time in between "Last Crusade" and now, the first 20 minutes seemed oddly constructed, with Elvis music blasting and a glimpse of suburbia. However, once the recognizable music plays and Indiana does his thing, it seems like no time has passed at all. Harrison Ford slips back comfortably into his role that was made so famous by a simple fedora and whip. The humor is still present as well as impossible, but entertaining, stunts. Familiar faces and elements from past adventures help make the sequel coherent. The film fails, however, once the plot is fully revealed. It became too far-fetched and strayed from the general style of Indiana Jones. My favorite still remains to be "Temple of Doom."
