So it has begun again...the first of several summer movies to come. Only it starts with a whimper rather than a bang. Don't get me wrong. I am a huge fan of X-Men, both comic and films by Bryan Singer. Yet this latest installment lacks the energy and feel of what made the franchise so solid. Hugh Jackman does a great job acting out the ferocious animal that he is but the supporting cast seems bland and useless. Brian Cox did a far better job as Stryker in X-2 than Danny Huston who seems too 'gentle' for this role. Liev Schreiber would have played a convincing Sabretooth if it weren't for his cheesy lines. Taylor Kitsch as Gambit was not as cool as the comics perceived him to be. And don't get me started on Will.i.am and Daniel Henney. But I must admit, the showdown towards the end between Deadpool/Weapon XI (though exaggerated in character) and Wolverine abundantly make up for the inadequacy of the film. Surprisingly enough, the storyline, which seemed contrived, was pretty accurate to the comics and how Wolverine came to be. I think the main problem existed in the editing of the film and how characters were in and out of scenes without reason. Overall, the second half is far more exciting than the first. Keep a look out for 3 Easter Eggs hidden after the credits although they are each shown at separate screenings.
