The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Release Date: Aug 01, 2008
Runtime: 1 hr. 54 min.
Director: Rob Cohen
Cast: Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Maria Bello, John Hannah, Michelle Yeoh.

While the first two "Mummy" films were entertaining, the third falls flat in trying to drag out a series that is doomed to be repetitive. The story premise is the same, with a been there, done that attitude. Just another language and location. The unfortunate change in cast also gave it a disadvantage since it offered a disconnect between the stories. Maria Bello came off as shrill and lacked the quirky personality that made Rachel Weisz's character so likable. The sudden growth spurt of the son, Alex, as well as his disappearance of a British accent from the second film was strange. Whereas the action remains consistent, the characteristic humor from the previous films seemed to be lacking in the third. Expect to see this same review for the upcoming two sequels which already seem to be in the works.
